Calle Latin Cuisine

A new Latin restaurant is in the works on Block Avenue.

The new place, called Calle Latin Cuisine, is planning to open in the building formerly home to Flying Possum Leather, and more recently Distinctive Dwelling, at 33 N. Block Ave.

The business was registered with the state by locals Fredi Valle and Fernando Castillo.

Pandemic-related weight gain is becoming a problem for children and it could be due to the rise of eating processed food, recent studies suggest.

A new study from the Pediatric Obesity journal reports that unhealthy dietary habits and a sedentary lifestyle may have adversely impacted children throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Almost half of the new trade issues discussed in a WTO committee in 2020 mentioned food safety, according to a report on the meeting.

Of the 36 new specific trade concerns (STCs) raised in the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Committee, 16 referred to food safety measures.

More than a third were due to other areas, such as certification, inspection and approval procedures. Those remaining referred to plant and animal health. The 36 STCs is the most since 2003. An additional 17 previously raised STCs were also debated.

For some Asian Americans, the dim sum cookie at Sunday Bakeshop here will taste like childhood.

It looks like a typical sugar cookie except with sesame seeds on top. But bite into the creamy, red bean center and it’s reminiscent of the fried, filled sesame balls served at a Chinese dim sum restaurant.
