In 2020, restaurants everywhere suffered. But some Miami area restaurants rebounded in 2021 — including one upscale Asian spot that was the top grossing independent restaurant in the country.

The trade publication Restaurant Business ranked the top-grossing independent restaurants for 2021, assessing how well they did after a yearlong, pandemic-related hiatus, and Komodo in Brickell grossed the most.

The Groot Hospitality restaurant, which served 285,000 meals with an average check of $115, grossed $41,000,000 in 2021.

European markets log third session of gains

European markets closed higher for a third straight session, with the Stoxx 600 index gaining 0.5% on Thursday.

The FTSE 100 was flat while France’s CAC 40 climbed 0.4% and Germany’s DAX added 0.8%. By sector, gains were led by the chemicals sector, up 1.1%.

The best-performing stock was LEG Immobilien German property company, which rose 6.7% after Morgan Stanley upgraded it to “overweight.”

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New HL Supermarket opened for its inaugural weekend just days before Thanksgiving. The sprawling grocery store at 2380 Hylan Blvd. features an inventory of produce, fish, meat, sundries and items particular to Chinese cooking.
