An unusual food combination is getting buzz in Springfield.
Many people crave Asian and Mexican food every day, but now a Springfield business owner says you can get all in one bite.
Jay Jung, who has owned several restaurants in Springfield, opened his latest venture — Kungfu Taco — last month on South National Avenue in the Medical Mile Plaza shopping center.
“Since moving to America in the late 90s, I always grew up having to make my own food because my mom would work a lot, so I used to just make things,” Jung said. “One day, I started adding Asian food inside my tortilla wrap, and after that I just loved it.”
Many may know Jung as the owner of OMO Japanese Soul Food and Little Korea. Jung, who has lived in Springfield for more than 20 years, said he believes Kungfu Taco will be successful because he knows people in Springfield love Asian food and Mexican food.
Kungfu Taco offers many different options on its menu such as rice cakes, tacos and fries.
A popular dish that was created at Jung’s other restaurants and that he brought to Kungfu Taco is the “Gangnam Style” chicken dish, which was inspired by the viral song and dance from a few years ago. The Gangnam Style comes with deep-fried tofu topped with Parmesan cheese and hot sweet mayo.
Another popular dish is the Kungfu tacos, which have your choice of protein with spring mix, cilantro, minced yellow onion, fresh lime and a side of kimchi.
Kungfu Taco is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. More information can be found on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
