Z&Z, a Middle-Eastern food business, will open a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Rockville’s Woodley Gardens Shopping Center.

NORTH CHARLESTON — A celebrity chef known for his many Food Network appearances will be in town next year on a culinary tour. 

Alton Brown is coming to the North Charleston Performing Arts Center on Feb. 18 as part of his tour “Alton Brown Live: Beyond the Eats.” There will be an earlier South Carolina stop on Feb. 17 at the Koger Center in Columbia. 

Brown, who serves as both comedian and chef, is known for hosting live culinary variety shows across the country, from his “Edible Inevitable” tour to “Eat Your Science,” which made it to Broadway.

Shouk, a fast-casual concept that serves plant-based kosher food, plans to expand from Washington, D.C., into Bethesda and Rockville this fall.

Shouk, which opened its first D.C. location in 2016, serves a variety of pitas and bowls such as the Shouk burger (veggie burger with tahina, roasted tomato, charred onion), eggplant burger, falafel and mushroom shawarma, according to the website.

Most pitas and bowls cost $10 to $12. Shouk also offers various types of hummus to go with the pita, along with salads and sides.

Syracuse, N.Y. — A new “California Tex-Mex” restaurant is coming later this year to a downtown location that was once home to The Mission, which offered “Pan-American/Mexican” food for 20 years.

The new restaurant, Luna Loca, will be operated by Ryan and Leigh Ann Benz, who also own the Oh My Darling restaurant, its adjacent Clementine lunch counter and bar called The Fitz at 321 S. Salina St.
