Mondi has announced plans to invest nearly EUR 65 million in three Consumer Flexibles packaging plants in Europe with the aim of increasing production capacity and meeting customer demand for sustainable pet food packaging solutions.

According to Mondi, the investment will see production capacity increase at Consumer Flexible plants in Austria (Mondi Korneuburg) and Germany (Mondi Halle and Mondi Steinfeld). The project is part of Mondi’s previously announced EUR 1 billion expansionary capital investment programme to accelerate growth in sustainable packaging.

Pet owners have been warned not to feed their dogs Encore’s tinned beef selection multipack, following fears it may contain metal.

The popular pet food, which is sold in supermarkets around the UK, has been removed from shelves and is under investigation. If customers have purchased the multipack, they are being encouraged to claim a full refund by taking it back to where they bought it and avoid feeding it to their pets. No receipt is required.

Viridor food-grade PET gets the green light from European Food Safety Authority

Viridor is celebrating a significant achievement at the company’s new Avonmouth Polymers Reprocessing Facility (PRF), near Bristol, after the plant’s food-grade PET received a positive safety assessment from the European Food Safety Authority.

Commissioning of the new plant – which puts polymers recycling and reprocessing under one roof – has begun. Once fully operational, Avonmouth will become the UK’s largest multi-polymer facility. It will produce 18,000 tonnes of food-grade PET annually.
