Used to be, whenever he and his wife would go out of town to dinner, Opp businessman Merrill Culverhouse would always run into someone he knew from their south Alabama hometown.

“When you would go out of town — if it was Andalusia, Enterprise, Destin (Fla.), anywhere — you would see Opp people leaving Opp to go to eat somewhere else,” Culverhouse says.

Ever since Culverhouse and his lifelong friend, chef Jon Gibson, opened their Wheelhouse restaurant in an old peanut butter plant downtown, though, folks around Opp are staying in town when they eat out.

Despite facing severe staffing woes, a family-owned restaurant in North Carolina hasn’t stopped cooking up free meals for dozens of local heroes every day. 

The Shark Shack, which has only two employees on its payroll, is determined to stay open for its customers and so it can keep serving “appreciation” meals to the servicemen and women throughout Carteret County. After opening hit restaurants Laut, near Union Square, and Laut Singapura, in Gramercy Park, Mehta is gearing up to open Wau, a new Upper West Side establishment, at the corner of Amsterdam Avenue and West 81st Street, on Thursday, September 9. BLUE SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) — A day after a local restaurant owner went on TV to explain why she was going against Jackson County’s mask mandate in places of public accommodation, the county’s environmental health department ordered the business to shut down.

The Jackson County Department of Environmental Health issued a suspension/revocation of permits notice to Rae’s Cafe on Friday morning. A sign on the business’ front door notes that the restaurant has been closed for “not following the Jackson County health order and causing a significant threat to the health and safety of the patrons.”
